The Wild 10 Countdown for December 15, 2010 – Final Edition for 2010

Let me clarify, it is not the end of the countdown. It’s just the last for 2010 and it will be on a two week break. The final edition was just the same 10 songs for the past few weeks. Except for the #1 song, the 9 songs were randomly mixed around in different charting position.

Here’s the final top 10 for twenty-ten.

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Number one for the third week as it’s the final #1 for 2010)

2. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (I had a guest host on and she really likes the song)

3. Minimum Wage Lovers – The Mountains & The Trees

4. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes

5. Something Else – Diamond Rings

6. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles

7. PUSH – Rich Aucoin

8. Little Voice – Rebekah Higgs

9. Stumble – Bonjay

10. Please Bless – Tanya Davis

Happy holidays and see you back in 2011.

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 8, 2010

Supposedly, the December 8th edition of the Wild 10 Countdown was the final countdown of 2010, but I found out I got lots of time for the extended for the couple of Wednesdays. It means that next Wednesday will be the final countdown of 2010 and it will be a random kind as the current 10 songs will be mixed around in the positions.
This week’s countdown had no new entries as the Christmas holiday nears. There were a few gainers, a few non-movers and a few droppers. As mentioned from my blog, I had The Mountains & The Trees as a surprise guest during the countdown. Here’s the list.

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (2nd week at the number one spot)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Steady at #2)

3. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Also steady at #3 since last week)

4. PUSH – Rich Aucoin (Going up from #5 last week)

5.  Minimum Wage Lovers – The Mountains & The Trees (Going up to #5. He was in Ottawa recently and had a sold out show at The Black Sheep Inn)

6. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Down from #4 last week. She’s doing a Christmas show)

7. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (Even though they earned a Grammy Award nomination, the song is dropping)

8. Little Voice – Rebekah Higgs (Going up a spot. She will be in Ottawa next weekend)

9. Please Bless – Tanya Davis (Going up a spot. She had a good show and turnout at The Black Sheep Inn last Friday)

10. Stumble – Bonjay (Slightly going down)

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 1, 2010

We’re almost to the end of 2010 and this may be the second last countdown for 2010 as the radio show will be going for the Christmas fare in the music category. Finally, Jim Bryson makes to the number one spot as he’s been in total rotation on various CKCU shows and even on CBC Radio 3. He bumps off Diamond Rings as he conclude his run as November’s X3 Artist of the Month. There are two new entries on the countdown and they are Halifax’s Rebekah Higgs and Tanya Davis. Here’s the top 10;

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (On top spot at #1. Last week was at #5.)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Steady at #2. The single comes out soon.)

3. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Fallen off the number one spot)

4. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Fallen from #3)

5. PUSH – Rich Aucoin (Now in the top 5. Getting some plays on CBC Radio 3.)

6. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (Fallen off the top 5)

7. Minimum Wage Lovers – The Mountain & The Trees (Going up a few spots. He’s getting plays on various shows plus he will be in Ottawa, well in Chelsea, QC this weekend)

8. Stumble – Bonjay (Going up a spot. Still getting plays on various CKCU shows)

9. Little Voices – Rebekah Higgs (New entry. Little Voices EP came out last week)

10. Please Bless – Tanya Davis (New entry. She will be at Raw Sugar Cafe as she’s currently on tour to promote her new album)

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 24, 2010

Ending off the week of November with glitches and a brand new number one. That’s right, Something Else by Diamond Rings bumped off Arcade Fire, who’s been on top for 5 weeks with Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains). It’s fitting that John O of Diamond Rings ends with a November as he’s the X3 Artist of the Month. The countdown itself is still filled some tunes from Electronica musicians. Only one new entry enters the countdown, that’s The Mountains & The Trees as he’s getting plays on various shows on CKCU and CHUO. As December arrives, there’s a chance that next week’s Wild 10 Countdown will be the last of 2010 as I will be playing Christmas tunes and a year end countdown.
Here’s the top 10 for the final week of November.

1. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Bumping off Arcade Fire for the top spot)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Jumping up a couple of spots as the single nears in a few weeks)

3. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes

4. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (Going down from #1 to #4. It’s still a great track from The Suburbs)

5. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (It’s a replacement to Constellation)

6. Lonely’s Lunch – You Say Party

7. PUSH – Rich Aucoin

8. Minimum Wage Lovers – The Mountains & The Trees (New entry as mentioned above. He will having a concert in the new year)

9. Stumble – Bonjay

10. We, Myself, And I – Shad (Falling four spots)

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 17, 2010

It was the CKCU 35th Anniversary Party withdrawal and I was supposed to bump Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) off the #1 spot but due to the fact that the song was performed on Saturday Night Live, it gave me a total surprise as I wasn’t expecting the song to be performed. It stays on for a 5th week because of the musical performance. There was only new debut and it’s from Toronto’s Bonjay. The gainers on the countdown were Rich Aucoin, You Say Party & Crystal Castles. Here’s the top 10.

1. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (5th week)

2. Something Else by Diamond Rings (Going up a spot and he’s currently the November X3 Artist of the Month)

3. Constellation by Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Down a spot but still getting plays on various radio shows)

4. Not The Stars by Allie Hughes (Steady)

5. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) by Crystal Castles (Going up. Getting plays on various radio shows.)

6. We, Myself, And I by Shad (Down a spot and off the big 5)

7. Lonely’s Lunch by You Say Party (Up 2 spots. The music video is still getting some talk over on social media sites)

8. PUSH by Rich Aucoin (Up 2 spots from last week.)

9. Red Lights by Holy Fuck (Down a few spots.)

10. Stumble by Bonjay (New entry. They were in Ottawa last Friday)

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 10, 2010

Since the 2010 CKCU-FM Funding Drive is done and over for another year, the countdown still continues on. This week had some new entries and the reason as a few of the songs released their music videos on the Internet. As usual, Arcade Fire is still on top for the Wild 10 Countdown. Here’s the list.

1. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (4th at #1. They will be on SNL for their second appearance. I can’t wait but won’t be able to watch it live as I will be attending CKCU’s 35 Anniversary Party)

2. Constellation – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Song is steady again. Aside from Mr. Bryson sporting a ‘tasche, he’s still getting airplays on various CKCU shows)

3. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Steady. I aired the audio interview for the show and he’s still getting plays as he’s November’s X3 Artist of the Month)

4. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Up a spot. She’s still hovering on the countdown and she’s still doing a couple of concerts in the Greater Toronto area)

5. We, Myself, And I – Shad (Going back to the Big 5. He’s got his own coffee but only in the Vancouver area)

6. Red Lights – Holy Fuck (Song is going up. I am still loving the music video)

7. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (New entry. A new version of Not In Love with The Cure’s Robert Smith. Coming in December)

8. Lonely’s Lunch – You Say Party (New entry. Not a brand new song but it’s the music video that’s been released on the Internet)

9. Surf’s Up – Winchester Warm (Up a spot. I gotta thank Mr. Pearce for donating to my show and another show for the Funding Drive)

10. Push – Rich Aucoin (New entry. The music video was released recently and it’s unique video because it’s on traditional 3-D. A great way to dance to the song.)

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 3, 2010 – Funding Drive Show #2

This week’s countdown had no new debuts, there were a few movers and shakers for the Wild 10. This was the second and final Funding Drive Show edition and I had no assistance because of other factors happening. I’m pleased with the donations during the countdown and around the second hour of the show. Without further ado, here’s the top 10.

1. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)Arcade Fire (3rd week at #1. They will be the musical guest on SNL for November 13th).

2. ConstellationJim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Steady at #2. He’s still getting airplay on various CKCU shows)

3. Something ElseDiamond Rings (Going up. He’s getting so much buzz because of the release of Special Affections. Expect the interview to be airing next week.)

4. The Hair SongBlack Mountain (Going down.)

5. Not The StarsAllie Hughes (Going up. She’s playing a couple of shows. Still one of my picks as she’s not getting airplay elsewhere)

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 27, 2010 – Funding Drive Edition #1

From October 22 to November 7, CKCU is holding their Funding Drive and we need the listeners to call in to donate to keep shows going on for another year. Also, we need to keep equipment to be updated and all sorts. If you want to support community radio, you should call 613-520-3920 (in the Ottawa area), 1-877-520-3920 (outside of Ottawa) and donate online. The goal for the station is $110,000. This week’s countdown is not on hiatus from the funding drive, it is still going on no matter what. Here’s the top 10.

1. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (2nd week at #1. There’s not much to say that it’s still a great song)

2. Constellation – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (It’s still getting lots of airplays on various CKCU shows)

3. Wait & See – Diamond Rings (Up a spot. Special Affections came out on Monday, instead of Tuesday’s whole slew of music releases. He’s in Ottawa on October 29th at Raw Sugar Cafe)

4. The Hair Song – Black Mountain (Down a few spots)

5. We, Myself, And I – Shad (Down a spot. Shad is still going strong with tours in the USA to promote TSOL)

6. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Up a spot. She’s continuing some live show in Toronto and parts of Southern/Western Ontario)

7. Quarry Hymns – Land of Talk (Going down slowly. The co-host still likes the band and song)

8. Serious Bedtime – The Balconies (New entry. Not a new song but congratulations to The Balconies for winning again last Friday for the Big Money Shot)

9. Red Lights – Holy Fuck (New entry. Such a cute and funny music with the cats. Plus the car chase between the cat and dog)

10. Up in the Belfry – Winchester Warm (Was supposed to be off the countdown as I decided to bump off Jason Collett instead. It’s staying on the countdown as the singer of the band donated for the show and another CKCU show)

You can listen to show by pressing play.

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 20, 2010

This week’s countdown is the week before CKCU’s annual funding driver. It was also the week when I was without a co-host. There was excitement as there’s a new number one song on the countdown. Bumping off The Hair Song by Black Mountain was Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) by Arcade Fire.
There was an airplay gainer from Ottawa’s Jim Bryson as he’s joined by The Weakerthans and releasing The Falcon Lake Incident.
As for next week’s plan, the countdown will continue but the songs may be shortened. We’ll see what happens.

Here’s the top 10 list.

1. Sprawl II  (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (New at #1)

2. The Hair Song – Black Mountain (Falling off the number one spot)

3. Metal Girls – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Greatest airplay gainer, jumping 7 spots. Album is now released)

4. We, Myself, And I – Shad (Falling down a spot)

5. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Song is steady but his debut album comes out and he will be in Ottawa as well)

6. Quarry Hymns – Land of Talk (Falling down a spot)

7. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Going up a spot and a new #7 countdown jingle as it’s based on Girls on Film by Duran Duran)

8. Tell Me, Cancer – Forest City Lovers (Going down a spot)

9. Up in the Belfry – Winchester Warm (Going down. They had a show last Saturday at Raw Sugar Cafe)

10. Bitter Beauty – Jason Collett (New entry as the album got released last week and was in Ottawa on Sunday for a show)

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 13, 2010

This week’s countdown is somewhat slow because it was the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. There was one debut and almost the majority of the songs are steady. Here’s the top 10.

1. The Hair Song – Black Mountain (2nd week at #1)

2. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (Going up a spot as it’s still my favourite song and it’s also my new co-host’s favorite too)

3. We, Myself, And I – Shad (Down a spot)

4. Quarry Hymns – Land of Talk (Steady. The reason why it hasn’t gone down because a certain host and show from another station played it last week)

5. Something Else – Diamond Rings (A replacement to Wait & See. Highly anticipating the new album)

6. Tell Me, Cancer – Forest City Lovers (Steady. The video is still nice to watch)

7. Up in the Belfry – Winchester Warm (Steady as they will be performing at Raw Sugar Cafe for the weekend)

8. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (It’s on the CKCU Top 20 Albums Chart and I wonder why?)

9. Let’s Call It a Day – Renee Yoxon (Replacing “The Look of Love”)

10. Constellation – Jim Bryson and The Weakerthans (New entry as the song was released as a free mp3, limited to the first 200 people)
