The Wild 10 Countdown for July 10, 2013

Wild 10 July 10th Vinyl

This week’s countdown finally has Louise Burns on the top spot. Her second album, The Midnight Mass got released on Tuesday through music stores and digital downloads. The style in the new album has more an 80s style and it’s worth listening to. The music video to Emeralds Shatter got released.
The only new entry on this week’s top 10 is from Shad & Skratch Bastid’s EP, The Spring Up. The track chosen was Homie, which features Cadence Weapon.
On the radio show itself, it was a best of interview segment by Data Romance. Originally aired in October (2012), you can watch the interview below. As usual, you can listen to the audio from below the top 10.
There were new music from Body Language and ASTR. There were a couple of flood songs as Toronto experienced heavy rain and power outages. You can check the playlist from the live show over at this link.

The Wild 10 Countdown for July 3, 2013

Orchestrated Noise - Maestro Fresh Wes

It’s a brand new month and we’re half-way through 2013. Since it’s the post-Canada Day edition of the Wild 10 Countdown and Summer radio show, it’s still fitting for Maestro Fresh Wes to take the top spot for another week. Quite ironic to have Black Trudeau be number one for this week after celebrating Canada’s 146th birthday. The only new entry on the countdown is Grand Analog as the band will be releasing a new album in August.

As the regular blog is on a Summer break, the radio show will be recapped here. As mentioned before that the radio show is on a Summer edition and keeping me company for part of the Summer is Katarina, host of The Cloud on CKCU-FM. This week’s show had a wrap up to The Community Cup.

The playlist from the live show can be seen over at this link. The audio will be posted below.

On the live show at CKCU-FM, co-host, Lauren was singing along to the song and getting a tweet from the host of CBC Radio One’s Bandwidth as she also likes the song. The Return of The Wild 10 Countdown for August 15, 2012 and Radio Show

Apologies for the lack of updates on this blog. It was due to being sick back in Winter and I got bogged down ever since. As the regular blog is on a Summer break, what better way to post a brand new entry for the time being.
The August 15th show was a live two in a half hour edition. I was filling in for the Summer show at CKCU-FM. The Wild 10 Countdown was aired live as opposed to pre-recorded. For the second week at the top spot, Stars is number one as anticipation of the upcoming album, The North will be released on September 4th. New entries for this week are Kashka and Papermaps. Still going strong on the top 10 are Diamond Rings, Hannah Georgas, Crystal Castles and Purity Ring.
Also played on the show were new tracks from the likes of The Luyas, The Wilderness of Manitoba and Rah Rah. A bit of withdrawl from the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Here’s the top 10 and you can also listen to the radio show.
1. Backlines – Stars (2nd week)
2. I’m Just Me – Diamond Rings
3. Enemies – Hannah Georgas
4. Plague – Crystal Castles
5. The Void – Metric
6. Belispeak – Purity Ring
7. It Ain’t Over – Shad
8. We Didn’t Know – Fire X Fire
9. Inferior Ghost – Papermaps
10. Beautiful Distraction – Kashka

The Wild 10 Countdown for January 4, 2012 and The Top 11 Non-Canadian Indie Music of 2011

Welcome back and it’s 2012 as The Wild 10 Countdown returns after a holiday absence from the year-end countdown and Christmas tunes.
In starting the new year, the countdown slightly brings a new slate or old slate as there weren’t any new tunes coming out during December. After 4 weeks on top, Coeur de Pirate falls and taking over the top spot is Kathleen Edwards with Change The Sheet. Her forthcoming album, Voyageur will be out on January 17th.
Debuting tracks for the brand new year are Little City and Plants & Animals as they have new materials to be released this month and the next.
I’ve decided to post up the top 11 non-Canadian indie music of 2011 on here because it was played on the live show on CKCU-FM. I had a tough decision to putting the year ender for 2011. It had to be Lykke Li on top because she had a great year with her second studio album, Wounded Rhymes. There were others in the top 11 that I also enjoyed putting in. There were surprises like Lana Del Rey and Neon Indian as they’ve been getting a lot of buzz from music critics and bloggers. One of the most unlikely choice in the top 11 was Emmy The Great.
Here are the lists;

The Wild 10 Countdown for January 4, 2012

1. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards (1st week at #1)

2. Adieu – Coeur de Pirate

3. Lines – Said The Whale

4. It – Rich Aucoin

5. I Won’t Try To Break Your Heart – Crissi Cochrane

6. Graveyard – Feist

7. Lightshow – Plants & Animals

8. Niagara – Ohbijou [YouTube link]

9. Post-War Blues – Dan Mangan

10. Sperry – Little City

The Top 11 Non-Canadian Indie Music of 2011

1. I Follow Rivers – Lykke Li [YouTube link]

2. Calgary – Bon Iver

3. Iris – Emmy The Great

4. Young Blood – The Naked & Famous

5. Marathon – Tennis

6. Go Outside – Cults [YouTube link]

7. Blue Jeans – Lana Del Rey [YouTube link]

8. Cruel – St. Vincent

9. Midnight City – M83

10. Don’t Move – Phantogram

11. Hex Girlfriend – Neon Indian
