The Wild 10 Countdown for October 31, 2013

Arcade-Fire-Reflektor-608x608

It’s been awhile I have posted the top 10. I take full apology for the lack of entries for the month of October. As mentioned on the main blog that I got sick from the cold and things bogged down. I didn’t get a chance to compile the countdown for a month. Since it’s back, I hope to have things back and running soon.
This week on the top spot happens to be Arcade Fire as their new album, Reflektor officially got released this week. After weeks of anticipation, the response has been favourable and good.
Still going strong on the countdown this week are Shad and Basia Bulat. For the absent weeks, I would have Basia Bulat and Shad on the top spot in October.
Debuting this week on the countdown is a song I am very hooked on and it’s Demon by Kandle. The song got released as a single not too long and expect Kandle to release her first full length in February 2014. It will be called In Flames. Another new entry is Kashka as Kat Burns, formerly of Forest City Lovers will be releasing her new album in November called Bound.
There’s a bit of a Halloween theme with this week’s audio.
Have a great week!

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 2, 2011

For the fifth week on top, Feist continues to stay at number one. It seems like there’s no stopping Feist and her excellent album, Metals. Also getting some airplays are Kathleen Edwards for Change The Sheets and Coeur De Pirate for Adieu. Blonde by Coeur De Pirate will be out sometime this month. There are a few new entries from The Wooden Sky and Yukon Blonde. Yukon Blonde seems to be getting some plays on various radio shows.
Dan Mangan and Ohbijou are still going strong as they’re still getting a lot of plays. A bit of unique irony for the countdown, four out of five on the top 5 are mainly filled by female artists and bands.
In case if you’re wondering which radio shows I follow in compiling the top 10, they are The Strombo Show, A Juncture, Now Playing on CHUO, Thursday Special Blend, Looking Good For Radio and Whatever’s Cool With Me. Then the occasional and random listenings on CBC Radio programs.

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (5th Week at #1)

10. Fire – Yukon Blonde (New Entry)

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 26, 2011

For the 4th week on top, Feist continues to dominate the countdown. It’s still being played on a couple of CKCU shows. Since it’s funding drive time, there’s a bit of a delay writing the entry as various radio shows need help getting phone pledges and the station needs to get 1/3 of the funding from the listeners. There were a couple of new debuts from Kathryn Calder and Rich Aucoin. The top 5 spots got some changes this week. Here’s the top 10 list.

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (4th week at #1)

2. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

3. Adieu – Coeur De Pirate

4. Rows of Houses – Dan Mangan

5. Niagara – Ohbijou

6. Shaking Down The Old Bones – The Darcys

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 19, 2011

If you reading side by side from my regular blog, this week’s edition was unique because the top 10 was split into parts from the podcast and the live edition for the radio show. The top 5 was aired live on CKCU-FM because of the Dan Mangan interview I got to do. For the third week on the top spot, Feist continues to reign at number one as various radio shows are continuing to play her excellent songs from Metals. Dan Mangan, Ohbijou and Kathleen Edwards continue to garner strong airplays on other radio shows as well. The new entry this week is Vancouver’s The Zolas as they announced a 7 inch EP to be released soon.
Here’s the top 10;

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (3rd week at #1)

2. Rows of Houses – Dan Mangan

3. Niagara / Scalpel Blade – Ohbijou (The live airing was Scalpel Blade. The podcast edition was Niagara)

Extra Comment
Speaking of Feist again, I stumbled on my Facebook news feed and saw this. It’s The Undiscovered First performed on The Black Cab Sessions. It’s a nice video and Feist sounds amazing!

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 12, 2011

For the second week at the top spot, Feist continues to be played throughout various radio shows. Metals is just an excellent album to listen to. Dan Mangan and Ohbijou are still in the top three as they’re getting a lot of airplay as well. Oh Fortune and Metal Meets are getting a great reviews and both are currently on tour. Dan Mangan is in Ottawa on Friday, October 14th at The Bronson Centre. Ohbijou are embarking the eastern part of the tour as they were in Ottawa and Toronto the week before.

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 5, 2011

It’s a new month and a new number one to begin October. There’s been a whole slew of great releases from Canadian artists. This week’s number one is none other than Feist. Metals was dropped on Tuesday and so far, there’s been good response to the album. A big plus was that the countdown was live again on the airwaves for this week only. Due to the fact that I need to do a live phone interview with Casey Mecija of Ohbijou.
There’s no new debuts this week and I was slightly occupied with other things happening in Ottawa.
Here’s the top 10 list.

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (First week at #1)

2. Rows of Houses – Dan Mangan (Forgot to mention that he’s The X3 Artist of the Month for October)

3. Niagara – Ohbijou

4. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

5. If I Get Old – Elliott Brood

6. Time Is Right – Cuff The Duke

7. Gosh, Darn, Damn – Rebekah Higgs

8. Adieu – Coeur De Pirate

9. Shaking Down The Bones – The Darcys

10. I’m On Fire – Whitehorse (It’s a Bruce Springsteen cover)

Another Comment
Since I won’t add it on my regular blog. It’s such a surprise to hear Steve Jobs pass away. Jobs was a great visionary.
