The Wild 10 Countdown for October 24, 2012

As you know that CKCU-FM is having their Funding Drive and the goal is $120,000. I know the countdown is not associated with the station and it used to be on the air. If you enjoy Canadian indie music or anything different than commercial radio, give CKCU a chance as it’s a community radio station hosted by volunteers who enjoy music. Feel free to make a donation by going to this link. The Funding Drive runs until November 4th.
This week’s top 10 has a few surprises. A new number one song and a couple of new entries. Dan Mangan takes the top spot as he released an EP and is currently touring with The Rural Alberta Advantage. Diamond Rings returns to the countdown as the new album, Free Dimensional officially got released.

The Wild 10 Countdown for January 4, 2012 and The Top 11 Non-Canadian Indie Music of 2011

Welcome back and it’s 2012 as The Wild 10 Countdown returns after a holiday absence from the year-end countdown and Christmas tunes.
In starting the new year, the countdown slightly brings a new slate or old slate as there weren’t any new tunes coming out during December. After 4 weeks on top, Coeur de Pirate falls and taking over the top spot is Kathleen Edwards with Change The Sheet. Her forthcoming album, Voyageur will be out on January 17th.
Debuting tracks for the brand new year are Little City and Plants & Animals as they have new materials to be released this month and the next.
I’ve decided to post up the top 11 non-Canadian indie music of 2011 on here because it was played on the live show on CKCU-FM. I had a tough decision to putting the year ender for 2011. It had to be Lykke Li on top because she had a great year with her second studio album, Wounded Rhymes. There were others in the top 11 that I also enjoyed putting in. There were surprises like Lana Del Rey and Neon Indian as they’ve been getting a lot of buzz from music critics and bloggers. One of the most unlikely choice in the top 11 was Emmy The Great.
Here are the lists;

The Wild 10 Countdown for January 4, 2012

1. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards (1st week at #1)

2. Adieu – Coeur de Pirate

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 7, 2011

It was another live 2 hour edition on CKCU-FM. Except that my show was only broadcast on the Internet. I forgot to mention during the show that this is last regular countdown for 2011. It’s not the end of the countdown, it’s this time of month where Christmas and year-end countdowns happen. The next several weeks, the countdown will be frozen due to holiday programming and the best of 2011 countdown.
For the fourth week at number 1, Coeur de Pirate currently stays on top. She is currently the X3 Artist of the Month for December. Feist rebounds back up because various shows on CKCU and CHUO were playing her songs and she performed at NAC on Monday night. There were no new entries.
Here’s the top 10.

1. Adieu – Coeur de Pirate

2. The Bad In Each Other – Feist

3. Asa – Bry Webb

6. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

7. Don’t Be Afraid of the Spark – The Sunparlour Players

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 30, 2011

It’s end of the November and apologies for back to back posts as I forgot about entering last week’s top 10 summary. This week was aired live on CKCU-FM. For the third week on top, it’s still Coeur de Pirate with Adieu from her sophomore album, Blonde. The only new entry is Crissi Cochrane.
I don’t know if this edition is the last of 2011 or there could be one more next week as we approach the holidays and a year-end countdown.
Here’s the top 10.

1. Adieu – Coeur de Pirate (3rd week at #1)

2. Wapusk – Kathleen Edwards

9. Rivers of Gold – Bry Webb

10. Don’t Be Afraid of The Spark – The Sunparlour Players

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 16, 2011

Sorry for the delay as I slightly got bogged down with other things happening after Wednesday’s radio show. New number one song for the week and it’s Coeur de Pirate as Blonde was release recently. The new entry happens to be Bry Webb as his solo album, Provider came out this week.
To keep it short, here’s the top 10.

1. Adieu – Coeur de Pirate

2. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 9, 2011

As mentioned at the main blog that the Funding Drive is done and over  with for another year. After being number one for the 6th week, How Come You Never Go There by Feist is going to be retired. The top 5 songs haven’t moved for another week as they’re getting lots of plays on various radio shows. Blonde by Coeur De Pirate, the second album  came out this past week and it’s getting a lot of attention on iTunes and social media. There’s only one new entry and it’s Said The Whale as they released a new EP called New Brighton.
Here’s the top 10.

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (6 weeks at #1)

2. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

3. Adieu – Cœur de pirate

4. Niagara – Ohbijou

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 2, 2011

For the fifth week on top, Feist continues to stay at number one. It seems like there’s no stopping Feist and her excellent album, Metals. Also getting some airplays are Kathleen Edwards for Change The Sheets and Coeur De Pirate for Adieu. Blonde by Coeur De Pirate will be out sometime this month. There are a few new entries from The Wooden Sky and Yukon Blonde. Yukon Blonde seems to be getting some plays on various radio shows.
Dan Mangan and Ohbijou are still going strong as they’re still getting a lot of plays. A bit of unique irony for the countdown, four out of five on the top 5 are mainly filled by female artists and bands.
In case if you’re wondering which radio shows I follow in compiling the top 10, they are The Strombo Show, A Juncture, Now Playing on CHUO, Thursday Special Blend, Looking Good For Radio and Whatever’s Cool With Me. Then the occasional and random listenings on CBC Radio programs.
Here’s the top 10;

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (5th Week at #1)

2. Change The Sheets – Kathleen Edwards

3. Adieu – Coeur De Pirate

4. Niagara – Ohbijou

5. Rows of Houses – Dan Mangan

6. Shaking Down The Old Bones – The Darcys

7. It – Rich Aucoin (He’s November’s X3 Artist of the Month)

10. Fire – Yukon Blonde (New Entry)

The Wild 10 Countdown for October 26, 2011

For the 4th week on top, Feist continues to dominate the countdown. It’s still being played on a couple of CKCU shows. Since it’s funding drive time, there’s a bit of a delay writing the entry as various radio shows need help getting phone pledges and the station needs to get 1/3 of the funding from the listeners. There were a couple of new debuts from Kathryn Calder and Rich Aucoin. The top 5 spots got some changes this week. Here’s the top 10 list.

1. How Come You Never Go There – Feist (4th week at #1)
