The Wild 10 Countdown for January 5, 2011

The return of the Wild 10 Countdown to kick off 2011. After a 2 week hiatus from Christmas, the countdown resumes as there were a few new track as bands and musicians gear up for their 2011 releases. That’s right, Young Galaxy, Jenn Grant and The Rural Alberta Advantage are coming out with their albums for 2011. The only surprise for the return of the countdown happens to be a returning #1 song. That’s right, Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) by Arcade Fire rebound back to the #1 spot due to the fact that the song was played on various radio shows as it was considered the best song from the 3rd studio album, The Suburbs. Without further ado, here’s the top 10 list for the first week of 2011.

1. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (6 weeks at #1)

2. Stamp – The Rural Alberta Advantage (New entry as their upcoming album, Departing comes out on March 1st)

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 15, 2010 – Final Edition for 2010

Let me clarify, it is not the end of the countdown. It’s just the last for 2010 and it will be on a two week break. The final edition was just the same 10 songs for the past few weeks. Except for the #1 song, the 9 songs were randomly mixed around in different charting position.

Here’s the final top 10 for twenty-ten.

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (Number one for the third week as it’s the final #1 for 2010)

Happy holidays and see you back in 2011.

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 8, 2010

Supposedly, the December 8th edition of the Wild 10 Countdown was the final countdown of 2010, but I found out I got lots of time for the extended for the couple of Wednesdays. It means that next Wednesday will be the final countdown of 2010 and it will be a random kind as the current 10 songs will be mixed around in the positions.
This week’s countdown had no new entries as the Christmas holiday nears. There were a few gainers, a few non-movers and a few droppers. As mentioned from my blog, I had The Mountains & The Trees as a surprise guest during the countdown. Here’s the list.

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (2nd week at the number one spot)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Steady at #2)

3. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Also steady at #3 since last week)

4. PUSH – Rich Aucoin (Going up from #5 last week)

5.  Minimum Wage Lovers – The Mountains & The Trees (Going up to #5. He was in Ottawa recently and had a sold out show at The Black Sheep Inn)

6. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Down from #4 last week. She’s doing a Christmas show)

7. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire (Even though they earned a Grammy Award nomination, the song is dropping)

9. Please Bless – Tanya Davis (Going up a spot. She had a good show and turnout at The Black Sheep Inn last Friday)

10. Stumble – Bonjay (Slightly going down)

The Wild 10 Countdown for December 1, 2010

We’re almost to the end of 2010 and this may be the second last countdown for 2010 as the radio show will be going for the Christmas fare in the music category. Finally, Jim Bryson makes to the number one spot as he’s been in total rotation on various CKCU shows and even on CBC Radio 3. He bumps off Diamond Rings as he conclude his run as November’s X3 Artist of the Month. There are two new entries on the countdown and they are Halifax’s Rebekah Higgs and Tanya Davis. Here’s the top 10;

1. Wild Folk – Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans (On top spot at #1. Last week was at #5.)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Steady at #2. The single comes out soon.)

3. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Fallen off the number one spot)

4. Not The Stars – Allie Hughes (Fallen from #3)

5. PUSH – Rich Aucoin (Now in the top 5. Getting some plays on CBC Radio 3.)

The Wild 10 Countdown for November 24, 2010

Ending off the week of November with glitches and a brand new number one. That’s right, Something Else by Diamond Rings bumped off Arcade Fire, who’s been on top for 5 weeks with Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains). It’s fitting that John O of Diamond Rings ends with a November as he’s the X3 Artist of the Month. The countdown itself is still filled some tunes from Electronica musicians. Only one new entry enters the countdown, that’s The Mountains & The Trees as he’s getting plays on various shows on CKCU and CHUO. As December arrives, there’s a chance that next week’s Wild 10 Countdown will be the last of 2010 as I will be playing Christmas tunes and a year end countdown.
Here’s the top 10 for the final week of November.

1. Something Else – Diamond Rings (Bumping off Arcade Fire for the top spot)

2. Not In Love (featuring Robert Smith) – Crystal Castles (Jumping up a couple of spots as the single nears in a few weeks)
